Teens & Tweens Bushcraft Club

Bushcraft Club is a regular, term-based program rather than a series of one-off activities. Children return to the same outdoor place each week, building familiarity with the site, the group and the practical routines of being outside. Sessions usually begin at basecamp with time to arrive, have a snack and hear about the afternoon before the group begins exploring, making and working together.

Activities change with the weather, season and interests of the group. Across the term, children may build temporary shelters, learn knots and simple rope systems, use hand tools for small making projects, work creatively with natural materials and take part in movement or problem-solving challenges. They will also spend time noticing plants, insects, water, weather and the gradual changes that become visible when you return to a place regularly.

The club is structured, but not over-controlled. Facilitators provide clear boundaries, careful demonstrations and close supervision, while giving children meaningful room to choose, explore and take responsibility. Skills are introduced gradually and activities are adapted to each child’s experience and ability, helping them learn when to ask for support, how to assess a challenge and how to contribute to a group.

Care for the parklands is part of the club, not an activity added at the end. Children learn to use materials lightly, protect plants and habitats, pack away what they have used and leave the site well. Over time, practical competence grows alongside confidence, independence and a deeper relationship with the living place around them.
